Saturday 26 October 2024 10:00

Alejandro Garnacho will be out to add to his Premier League goal tally in Sunday's match at West Ham United.

The Argentina winger scored twice against the Hammers in last term's Old Trafford fixture and, with an Emirates FA Cup strike past the east Londoners in 2023, he has netted more times against them than any other opponents.

Last weekend's volley in the 2-1 win over Brentford took Garna on to 12 goals in the competition and he does not turn 21 until next July.

Opta have looked into how he compares with other non-British players of the same age over the years.

When it comes to purely looking at goals in this field for United, he is now level with Anthony Martial, who left the club in the summer and now plays for AEK Athens in Greece.

Cristiano Ronaldo is the man to catch, and the global icon, who set up Garnacho's first goal in senior football (against Real Sociedad in 2022), is one of the youngster's biggest idols.

The Al-Nassr striker managed to hit the net 14 times in the top flight for United before turning 21 and maturing into a goalscoring machine.

The overall list compiled by Opta certainly throws up some interesting names.

A former Red is at the top and Romelu Lukaku's 32-goal haul ensures he is will clear of his peers. The Belgium international's impressive tally included a hat-trick against United, while on loan at West Brom, during Sir Alex Ferguson's last-ever game in management.

Romelu Lukaku is well clear at the top of the goalscoring chart.

Nicolas Anelka, whose penalty was saved by Edwin van der Sar to win us the 2008 Champions League in Moscow, is in second spot, ahead of Robbie Keane in third.

Brighton & Hove Albion centre-forward Evan Ferguson only turned 20 this month so he and Garnacho can continue to try to climb the table.
