Skinner: We are history makers for Manchester United
Manchester United Women's manager Marc Skinner spoke to both club and external media following his side's FA Cup final victory, which clinched our first piece of silverware since the team reformed.
Goals from Ella Toone, Rachel Williams and Lucia Garcia (2) sealed the 4-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur, but Skinner was keen to extend his gratitude beyond the goalscorers on the day at Wembley Stadium.
He reflected on a somewhat tough season for the Reds, but expressed delight in being able to deliver this seismic achievement for the club.
The triumph has booked his place, along with the staff and players, in the record books at United for years to come, and will prove to be a standout memory for the incredible Reds supporters.
Skinner: That's for all the fans
Marc Skinner discusses how fans, players and staff all contributed as United Women made history...
"Obviously we're not where we want to be in the league, right? But we are history makers for Manchester United," Skinner told the BBC.
"We want to be challenging for titles, of course we do, but you all know, adding that first piece of silverware is really important for the psyche, and so we've got nothing but growth to happen."
Toone's solo effort, running from deep in midfield and then dispatching an inch-perfect curled shot from outside the box, was a spectacular way to make the breakthrough in what had been an evenly fought battle until that point late in the first half, and the United boss wanted to make sure those key players savour these memories.
He said to the BBC: "Tooney scored one like that against Leicester [recently] and to do it at Wembley; [it's] such a special moment.
"But I just reminded her up there: 'Just feel it. Just remember it. Feel it.' Because it comes and goes too quick and so, for her, congratulations. To the whole team, congratulations. [A] magnificent performance."
Skinner later conveyed his delight in being able to share this moment with our passionate fanbase, adding that the hard work of all those involved had finally paid off.
Speaking to MUTV, he continued: "I feel incredible. But more importantly, I don't personally just feel incredible for me, I feel incredible because our players [and] our staff have been able to produce it for the best fans in the world.
"We've wanted that for so long. I can't tell you how hard we work every day to do it, and it [had] eluded us up until this point.
"But that's for all the fans. For every single fan that loves Manchester United. That's for you, and you absolutely deserve that."

The Reds' manager is rightly enjoying the celebrations, but he made no secret of the fact that he hopes this is just the start.
Skinner said to MUTV: "This is the first of what I hope is many. We've got work to do. We're not going to lie.
"We need you [the fans]. We need you for years and years to come. But we were happy that we could give you one token, one moment for all the things you give to us. And for everybody involved at Manchester United, that's for all of you.
"You absolutely deserve that, you're the best in the world. And let's push on from here."
